Used CNC Punches for Sale | Southeast Inventory

Sheet-metal shops across the Southeast often need more punching capacity without new-machine pricing or long lead times. A used CNC punch press can be a practical fit for a fab shop or production cell when the purchase is grounded in tonnage, throat depth, turret and tooling, control, and bed size — not just a model name on a listing.

What to check on a used CNC punch press

Start with the parts you run. Confirm the maximum sheet size, material thickness range, and hole or form sizes your work actually needs, then work through the configuration and condition items below.

  • Tonnage: Match punching tonnage to your thickest material and largest tooling. Undersized tonnage shortens tool life and slows cycle times; oversized tonnage wastes floor space and power if you only run light gauge.
  • Throat depth and bed size: Confirm throat depth and the X/Y work envelope so the largest sheet you nest can be punched without awkward repositioning. Note whether the machine is a turret punch or a rail/C-frame style and how sheet repositioning is handled.
  • Turret and tooling: Count turret stations, note station sizes (A/B/C/D or equivalent), and confirm which tooling style the machine uses (Thick Turret, Trumpf-style, Amada, Finn-Power/Prima Power, or another system). Ask which punches, dies, and form tools are included with the sale.
  • Tooling condition: Inspect punches and dies for wear, chipping, and correct clearances. Worn or mismatched tooling shows up as burrs, dimensional drift, and stripper problems long before the frame fails.
  • CNC control: Identify the control and software version, nesting or offline programming options, and whether your programmers already know that platform. Confirm program transfer (USB, network, or older media) still works.
  • Hit rate and axis condition: Ask about rated hits per minute on typical tooling, then watch the machine run. Listen for unusual noise on the ram, check for backlash or play in the X/Y axes, and review recent maintenance or rebuild records if available.
  • Clamps, scrap, and part handling: Confirm sheet clamps, brush or ball tables, scrap chutes or conveyors, and any part-removal or sorting options included. Scrap handling and clamp dead zones affect real nest yield as much as raw tonnage.
  • Auto-index and multi-tools: If auto-index stations or multi-tools are listed, verify they index cleanly and that the tooling for those stations is present. Do not assume a catalog option is on the machine you are buying.
  • Hours and power-on data: Where the control stores hit counts or power-on hours, capture those numbers. Compare them to the condition of the ways, ballscrews, and turret, not to the year alone.
  • Electrical and air: Note voltage, phase, amperage, and compressed-air requirements so your shop can support the machine without a surprise transformer or dryer purchase.

Every used machine should be evaluated on its actual configuration and condition. We do not publish unverified serial numbers or assume that every pictured option is included. Ask for the current details, photos, and operating information before arranging a visit or freight.

Rigging, power, and installation planning

Plan the move before the machine ships. Confirm weight and footprint, door and floor clearances, and whether you will need riggers, a forklift of the right capacity, or a crane. Check electrical requirements and air supply, and allow for leveling, foundation, and scrap-bin or conveyor layout so the punch can be set up and run without surprises.
